Good afternoon Mr. Venturini!
Sometimes it's nice to know a little more about family race history. My dad, Frank King, used to race with your grandfather,Tony Venturini. I don't know if they raced midgets together, but I know they raced stock cars. They did the whole circuit, Soldier Field, Rockford Speedway, O’Hare Stadium, Milwaukee, and I believe Hales Corners and more.
I remeber hearing good words about Mr. Venturini, seems they were not the political types, (didn’t play politics, just raced) like some drivers, so from what my dad had said there were times the laps were sort of "miscounted".
Our family racing history began with AAA championship midget racing and my dad had the opportunity to drive Tony Bentenhausen's car during qualifications at Indy.
Our stock car racing began one day in the early 50's when my brother Tom and I came home from school and noticed the family car had a huge number painted on the side. Stock car racing was rather new them and stil not as popular as midgets so the purses were small. Very soon after we had a car just for racing called "the shrimp boat".. not sure what that was about..
Of all the tracks I remeber Soldier Field the most and if i recall correctly, the cars entered from under the stands, like gladiators... very cool.
Unfortunaly I have no photos of those race days.
I raced some quarter and half midgets and had a drag car.
One of my dad's drivers was Al Latrena and I recall one of our mechanics was Bud Boerner (From Sam's towing in Franklin Park, IL).
Very best of luck in the 2007 season
